An introduction to the principles of stage acting. Students, 16 and older, will learn fundamentals and take part in auditions leading to involvement in the rehearsal, production and performance process at Normal's Community Activity Center. Productions will be created in connection with the Playwriting course.
This is a one-week camp that is offered to youth entering 2nd through 10th grades. It is taught by a local art instructor and is a specialized and more advanced art program. Participants usually take an in-town field trip during the week. This program takes place at the West Shelter in June.
Ballet I & 2 (ages 5 1/2 - 7 and 7 1/2 - 9) – Classes emphasize the development of classical ballet skills with a focus on proper placement and alignment. Students will learn basic ballet vocabulary through barre and center work while building strength and flexibility. Flyer (PDF)
Week long Themed Camps are offered in the summer months to children ages 7-10. Camps are offered in the mornings and/or evenings.
Children ages 5-8 will enjoy a fun and creative combo of street dancing and the basic technique and terminology of classical jazz dance. Flyer (PDF)
Children’s Theater is an eight-week summer program introducing participants to various theatrical areas, including music, makeup, dancing, set design and building, and the process of putting them all together in a play / musical production at the end of the eight weeks. The program meets three mornings a week at the Connie Link Amphitheatre. Participants must be entering 2nd-8th grade to participate.
Classes for those ages 8-18 years meet on Wednesdays, 6:30-7:30 pm and include warm up, strength training, conditioning tips and stretching. Beginners will focus on proper body position, muscle usage, basic positions and basic balances. More advanced students will learn more difficult skills, choreography and artistry. Participants learn at their own pace and interest level. As strength and confidence increases, participants will be amazed at what they are capable of doing. Some of the skills learned are: Juggling, Lyra Hoop, Silks, Tight wire, German Wheel, Spanish Web, Rolla-Bola and many more. Classes meet September through April.

High School Summer Theatre
This program provides an excellent opportunity for teens to express themselves and use their talents as part of the cast of a summer production. All teens entering 9th grade through 12th grade are welcome to try out. Try-out dates take place in May. Performances are in June and July.
Intro to Guitar
This 8 week course, taught by guitar instructor Scott Terrell, will give a solid foundation for the beginning guitarist, 6 years and older. Subjects covered will be basic chords, proper technique, tuning, etc. using the framework of actual songs to create a fun and informative experience. Flyer (PDF)

Children ages 5-7 years will be introduced to the very basic fundamentals of tap dancing. The goal of the class is to successfully instruct and help the participants to advance to the next level of tap as we begin to develop this new form of dance within our overall youth dance program. Flyer (PDF)
