On-street outdoor dining in Uptown Normal extended until further notice

Normal, IL – October 30, 2020 – Following the Governor’s recent actions pertaining to Restore Illinois regions and the current positivity rate in Region 2, the Town of Normal will continue on-street dining in Uptown until further notice.  The Town had previously announced that on-street dining would end on November 2.

“We are so happy that the Town is extending the outdoor dining season in Uptown.  With current COVID rates, it would be nice for customers to still have the chance to eat outside,” said Charbel Saliba, co-owner of The Rock in Uptown Normal.  “We really appreciate the Town’s cooperation during this very difficult time.”

Businesses who previously applied for outdoor dining do not need to reapply.  Business owners who would like to apply for a new outdoor dining operation should contact Town Clerk Angie Huonker at for an application.  The application must be signed and returned before opening an outdoor dining area.  The outdoor dining extension leaves in place all the regulations implemented in late May.  These regulations include but are not limited to the following:

    No smoking permitted
    No amplified sound allowed
Patrons must have access to indoor restrooms (Portapotties not allowed)
Open alcohol may not be removed from the designated outdoor dining areas
Outdoor dining areas will close at 10 p.m.
All regulations by the State or the County Health Department apply
ADA accessibility and accessible parking must be maintained

These changes will remain in effect until further notice. Patrons will find each restaurant is responsible for enforcing these rules, and the Town reminds patrons that social distancing and handwashing protocols should be followed.
